The Australian borders have still not opened completely (except for a few states) for international students due to the COVID-19 pandemic and most of the studies are still being continued online. If you already have a student visa and are continuing your studies online, you should look further into your state regulations.

If you are studying in a university in NSW, Victoria or Tasmania, international borders are already open for vaccinated students.  But if you are looking to apply for a university in WA, then borders are to open only in February 5, 2022.

For returning students, you need to comply with requirements in the state or territory of your arrival, and any other state or territories that you plan to travel to. This includes quarantine and post-arrival testing requirements. Restrictions may change at short notice.

You may be eligible for reduced quarantine requirements when you return to Australia depending on the state or territory to which you are travelling.

If you wish to travel on to another state or territory you may not be allowed to enter, or may be subject to a quarantine period. Learn more about pre-departure rules and regulations here.

But such is not the case for new students who wish to apply for Australia. According to expert opinions, international students will probably be able to come normally to all of Australia by early 2022 . So for new students, the second semester for 2022 will probably be the preferred option to go to Australia.

  • To enter WA from outside Australia, you may require approval from the Australian Government. Please visit the Department of Health website for further information on travel restrictions for international arrivals. You will also require a G2G PASS declaration to enter WA.
  • Ensure you have a face mask, as they are mandatory on aircraft and at airports in WA unless you are under 12 or approved. You must also wear your mask while travelling to your quarantine premises. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your specific situation and you are calling from overseas, please call +61 8 9118 3100. This is the international number for the COVID hotline.
New South Wales OPEN
  • Go straight to your home or accommodation
  • Get a COVID-19 PCR test within 24 hours of arrival
  • Self-isolate until you get a negative test result
  • Get another COVID-19 PCR test on day 6
  • Don’t visit high risk places until you get a negative day 6 test result
Tasmania OPEN
  • You can register or apply to travel to Tasmania up to seven days before you intend to arrive.
  • All travelers must register through the Tas e-Travel system.
  • You will be required to scan your QR code on arrival in Tasmania.
  • You must have evidence of your vaccination certificate and – if required – a negative result from your COVID‑19 PCR pre-departure test.
Australian Capital Territory OPEN
  • Travelers who have arrived into Australia within the previous 7 days will still need to complete the online declaration form within 24 hours of arrival in the ACT
  • Travelers need to get an additional COVID-19 PCR test on day 6 after arrival.
  • International arrivals who are not fully vaccinated still need to undertake mandatory 14 day hotel quarantine at their port of arrival.
Victoria OPEN
  • Have an international COVID-19 vaccination certificate, or obtain a valid foreign vaccination certificate from the country you were vaccinated.
  • Test negative for COVID-19. Present evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test (not a rapid antigen test) taken within 3 days of your flight’s scheduled departure. Present this evidence to your airline when you check-in for your flight.
  • Ensure all your Commonwealth entry requirements in order, including checking you can travel and completing your Australian Travel Declaration.
  • If home quarantine: Get an international passenger arrival permit from Service Victoria for every traveler over the age of 12 years and 2 months.
  • Children under 12 years and 2 months who are travelling unaccompanied must have their own permit.

So now, with all this time in your hand, what should you be doing? Well, RESEARCH!! You should be doing initial researches about the right universities for you and the right courses for you. Look up for scholarships that universities have for international students. If you have a hard time coming across your wants, you could always contact us!

Also, you should probably begin deciding on your standardized test options (PTE, IELTS, and TOEFL) which differs from your choice of university. You also should be researching about the scholarships your universities provide and whether you are eligible for it.

If your test scores are not enough for a university, you can always apply for pathway programs. A diploma done can later be transferred to a bachelors degree in a university. And this process has it’s benefits!

Further, for the entire process, a time period of six months before you fly out for your studies is generally considered a good time. So you should be working on a six month time frame for your July 2022 intake.
